Joy Williams
Joy Williams brings a multi-disciplinary approach to climate change strategy. She moved from traditional engineering working on airplanes, to climate change and then finance over 20 years ago and has since worked in government, policy, strategic consulting, and the finance industry.
In finance, Joy worked at small, venture capital firms in the carbon markets as technical subject matter expert as well as large, mature asset owners such as Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. She was one of the first responsible investment personnel at Teachers’ and managed initiatives such as integrating ESG and climate diligence, the climate change working group developing an in-house scenario approach, and education of the investment staff. She was privileged to have chaired a climate advisory panel for the New York State Common Retirement Fund on how to best mitigate investment risks stemming from climate change and maximize opportunities from the new, low-carbon economy.
Joy is now the technical lead for the Financial Institution Net-Zero Transition Plan workstream at GFANZ. Her objective is to develop a reference for developing net-zero plans that the financial sector and policymakers can use to increase net-zero transition momentum. Joy is a Professional Engineer and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
