Jordan Peterson
Jordan Peterson, a proud Gwich’in from Aklavik, Northwest Territories, brings a unique perspective to his advocacy for Indigenous rights. His personal connection to the cause is evident in his career, which he has devoted to advancing Indigenous self-determination and fostering relationships between Indigenous communities and the Canadian government.
Jordan’s tenure as the youngest Deputy Grand Chief and Chief Negotiator of the Gwich’in Tribal Council in 2016 was marked by significant strides toward self-determination and sustainable development for the Gwich’in people. His collaborative efforts with various Indigenous governments across Canada have been instrumental in executing Land Claims and Self-Government Agreements, demonstrating his ability to work across diverse groups.
Internationally, Jordan was a Senior Arctic Official for the Gwich’in Council International (GCI) at the Arctic Council Executive, co-chairing GCI from 2016 to 2020. His leadership in the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement Treaty Modernization Team earned the 2019-2020 NWT Premier’s Award for Excellence.
In 2020, Jordan founded Affinity North, an Indigenous-owned consultancy that has become a beacon of innovative solutions and collaborative approaches under his visionary leadership. He holds an Executive MBA in Indigenous Business Leadership from Simon Fraser University, underscoring his commitment to driving progress and creating lasting impact.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jordan is a board director and sits as a community advisory board member for Northwestel. His multifaceted contributions drive progress and create meaningful impacts nationally and internationally, positioning him as a significant figure in the ongoing pursuit of Indigenous rights and self-determination.
