Alain Bourque

Alain Bourque has been the Executive Director of Ouranos since 2013. He joined the organization at its inception in 2001 to set up the program on vulnerabilities, impacts, and adaptation. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from McGill University and a Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science from UQÀM, and he worked as a meteorologist/climatologist at Environment Canada from 1989 to 2001.

Frequently consulted by the media and policymakers, Mr Bourque has contributed to organizing several major conferences, including Adaptation Canada 2016 and Adaptation Futures 2023. He currently serves on the Advisory Committee on Climate Change as well as several expert committees advising public policy. At the request of Minister Charette, he co-chaired the Climate Change Adaptation Expert Group, which produced 20 recommendations and 90 action pathways to advance the Quebec government’s updates to the Green Economy Plan (PEV). Mr Bourque also serves on the boards of Génome Québec, the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, and CLIMAtlantic.
