John Zhou is the Chief Cleantech Officer and Vice President, Clean Resources at Alberta Innovates. In this role, Mr. Zhou has dual responsibilities to oversee corporate strategy for clean tech and sustainable resource development and provide operations leadership for the Clean Resources business line. Prior to his current role, Mr. Zhou served as Vice President, Clean Energy at Alberta Innovates, and Chief Technical Officer and Acting CEO of Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions (AI-EES). In 2009, Mr. Zhou led the development of an industry consortium in Materials and Reliability in Oil Sands (MARIOS) with 25 companies. In 2016, Mr. Zhou developed the vision for Bitumen Beyond Combustion (BBC) to grow a multibillion-dollar industry in a low carbon global economy based on Alberta’s oil sands resources.
