Shannon Chief/Waba Mako was born and raised in the Wolf Clan of the Anishnabe-Algonquin Nation. She contributes at various levels to the decolonization and the restoration of her people’s sovereignty. The defense and protection of land and languages is a priority  for the Anishnabeg. Waba is an Anishnabemowin teacher, does part time translations and runs seasonal camps which focus on language building, cultural and ceremonial practice. She works full time as Community Research lead for the Anishnabe Moose Studies that is guided by an Elder’s Advisory Council and a community driven project.
