What is the Healthy Energy Homes Network Directory?
The Healthy Energy Homes Network Directory is a database designed to support Indigenous communities, as well as organizations working with Indigenous communities, looking for programs and funding for Indigenous housing, health, and energy initiatives. The Network Directory is also intended to help build connections between individuals and groups who are working at the intersection of these inter-related issues.
Content has been compiled from desktop research and interviews with subject matter experts. It is a product of the Healthy Energy Homes research carried out by the Canadian Climate Institute and Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE).

First Nations Housing Professionals Association (FNHPA)

The FNHPA is a national, professional association serving the needs of individuals working for or aspiring to positions in housing with First Nations organizations. The FNHPA supports existing and future housing professionals by:
- Setting national standards.
- Providing education, certification, and sponsorship programs.
- Encouraging communication and knowledge-sharing.
- Offering real, personal support and availability to First Nations housing professionals.
First Nation Market Housing Fund (FNMHF)

The FNMHF provides support for First Nations individuals hoping to build, purchase or renovate a home on reserve lands. It works with First Nations administrations to provide guarantees on member housing loans.
First Nations National Building Officers Association (FNNBOA)

The FNNBOA provides technical expertise and support for First Nations staff related to housing repairs, construction, and inspections. It advocates for housing policies to improve housing conditions.

The Green Municipal Fund provides support to Indigenous communities for constructing or retrofitting community buildings or housing climate adaptation, and assessing or implementing local energy systems.
Habitat for Humanity Canada, Indigenous Housing Partnership (IHP)

The IHP supports Indigenous community-led housing solutions and seeks Indigenous partnerships under four project streams: construction and rehabilitation, skills training, building staff knowledge and cultural competencies, and relationship building.
Indigenous Clean Energy’s Bringing it Home Project Accelerator

The Project Accelerator is designed to support the development of Indigenous energy efficiency housing projects. Over 18 months, participating communities receive virtual and in-person training and access to a national network of experts and mentors to support the creation of a project plan.

Natural Resources Canada’s Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI)

Natural Resources Canada’s Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative provides funding to organizations that help building owners in the development of deep retrofits in commercial, institutional, and mid- or high-rise multi-unit residential buildings in Canada. The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources and Four Winds Associates have received funding for projects.
Natural Resources Canada’s Greener Homes Affordability Program (CGHAP)

The CGHAP provides low-to-median-income homeowners and tenants with no-cost home retrofits, such as insulation and heat pumps. The program is delivered through participating provinces and territories and Indigenous organizations.

Raising the Roof builds affordable housing across Canada and provides support to other non-profits for affordable housing, in addition to offering wraparound supports such as mental health resources and employment counselling.
Raven Indigenous Outcomes Fund

Raven Indigenous Outcomes Funds is an Indigenous-led fund manager that uses outcomes finance to fund meaningful solutions including in clean energy and housing. Using funding agreements called Community-Driven Outcomes Contracts, it brings together funding from government, philanthropy, and private investors to support solutions designed and led by Indigenous communities.

Take Action on Radon’s 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge targets municipalities across Canada where radon testing has thus far been limited, and where there is a potential for homes to have elevated levels. The program will provide up to 100 test kits to each participating municipality, to be distributed to citizens for free. Each community needs to have a community liaison to take on the project and provide local support.
